WHY WAIT?

PSALM 27:14

_________________________________________

“Wait on the Lord…”

Honestly, we must confess that “waiting” is one of those plagues of modern life. Why do I have to wait in line? Why must I wait to be seated? Why in the 21st century are there still waiting rooms? What good can possibly come out of waiting? Well, for one, patience!

Patience is learning the discipline of waiting and it is a virtue that very few people have developed. Waiting means that something we desire or need is being delayed. Delay can feel as fatal as cancer. Yet, in reality, the opposite is true; waiting actually saves time.

According to God’s timetable, delay can cause expedience. When we are patient, we are exercising great faith and trust in God to accomplish what He wants, when He wants and how He wants. When I wait upon Him, He can, in a more timely way, bring me directly to that thing for which I am so eager.

When the Bible says to “wait on the Lord,” as it so often does, know that this is the time to learn the best and quickest route to the desired destination. I can and will do much better, much faster, if I will only discipline myself to wait upon the Lord. Therefore, trust in His timing, for He is never late in giving us any good thing. The next time you hear “wait” or “be patient” or “there will be a slight delay”, know that it is time to trust the Lord. He is at work in that thing that concerns you. He already knows all the details. He knows exactly what’s needed in your life and when and how to make it happen. So then, dear friend, “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!” -Psalm 27:14.
