“Beyond the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house.”
In ruins and with its wall broken down, the condition of Jerusalem was much like parts of our nation today. But rather than give in to despair, Nehemiah called the people to rebuild. I find it significant that a good majority of the work was done in front of each builder’s own home, the place where faith is lived out daily.
At this hour, the COVID-19 pandemic has emptied church sanctuaries leaving congregations anxious for their reopening. I want to remind you dear saint, that whether the church is open or closed, you are the prophet, priest, and pastor of your home.
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
While there’s no doubt that the Church is a powerful force in the world, it is only as strong as the homes and lives it comprises.
Believer, God knew you would be here at this time in history and He has prepared you for such a time as this. He has readied you by virtue of every Bible study and church service you’ve attended, through every podcast download and worship song sung. And now is the time to share every bit of what you’ve received.
Home is where faith becomes practical before it goes public. Our kids, our teens, our families are watching to see if the Bible they’ve learned in church is really true. Can it stand up under pressure? The neighbors are watching too. Many are searching for hope and wondering if Christianity has the answer.
Now is the time to repair the broken altars of prayer and family Bible reading. Now is the time to strengthen faith by talking often about the goodness of God in everyday life. Now is the time to rebuild our spiritual houses with the strong materials of “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Dear saint, the Lord has prepared you for this hour. I urge you, “Now is the time”.
