1 PETER 2:21-25

______________________________________________

“For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: ‘Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth’; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness – by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”

The obvious reality here is that the Christian and the Church are appointed to suffering. The Bible tells us that as a Christian, we can be in the middle of God’s perfect will and be loved by Him, yet still encounter trials and persecution. Jesus Himself suffered an immense amount of persecution, for our sake, when He came to earth and died so that we might live. He died to save the world and redeem us from our sin.

Christ bore our sins, meaning that He self-determined to personally involve Himself by willfully going to the Cross to pay the penalty for our sin. Jesus suffered on the Cross, which paid the atonement for sin once and for all. Not just your sin and mine, but for the sins of all humanity. He willingly came down to earth as a man to pay the ultimate price for each and every sin that has been or ever will be committed. This was a one time and forever healing from the power of sin. It is through His stripes and the blood of the Lamb that we are healed and made whole.
